from "davanti" to "gobecke"

  • Apr. 16th, 2008 at 9:37 AM

To confirm, I've changed my username from "davanti" to "gobecke" on Livejournal in spirit of my artist pen-name BECK.E

I use "gobecke" for many of my online registrations where punctuation "." can't be used, such as on YouTube and Deviant Art.  Most of my other communities allow the punctiation.

What's in a name?
A couple of people have asked how I came up with my artist pen-name "BECK.E".

1: I knew I'd probably get married one day and that my surname would change (my choice of course).  In some instances as this, I like absolutes.  The artist name I started off with in my art career I wanted to keep forever to establish myself in the art community.  I didn't want to one day be married with a new surname and still be referred to by my maiden name with my art.  To me that would seem too complicated.  It sounds funny, I know.  If you've seen my daily drawings you can maybe understand how I like to simplify things as much as possible.

2: The person I married (June 2007) is an artist too!  He goes by his (now ours) surname, and to of course keep things simple I didn't want to go by the same surname to avoid confusion.

3: Long story short: my given nickname is "Becky" and my maiden last name starts with an "E", so I don't use the "E" just to try to look cool.  I started signing my artwork as "BECK.E" I believe my junior year of college when I was studying in Rome, which I'll show my age a little and say that was several years ago.  ;)  I like how phonetically "Becky" and "BECK.E" sound the same.  I feel that by living in a modern age  having a punctuation in my name is acceptable.  Artists make up their own rules, so why not for their names too?  To me it was similar to naming a band or branding myself really.  Among many things, art is a business.

Venting: Yesterday someone (on LJ on a community) wrote to me saying my artist pen-name is "ignorant" and that I was only using the "E" to try to be cool and that I should stop using it, to which I cooly responded that it actually has a meaning behind it and that I plan on keeping it.  Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but it was definitely mean-spirited of her who I had never had dialogue prior to yesterday.  I fully admit this post of mine is only in existance because an art student challenged my artist pen-name.  I found it odd that another artist would challenge it, and not see the creativity and originality of it.

I'm back!

  • Oct. 28th, 2007 at 11:19 PM

Hollow Cow, Batman!  I couldn't believe my LiveJournal still existed, and moreover that I have five years logged on here!  (2001 - beg.2006)

I've been using MySpace since beginning of 2006, which seems like ions ago.

Some updates:

-I got married in June 2007 to the same guy I was dating before since 2004.
-After the wedding was over I had more time to focus on my art, and I do a daily drawing every weekday.  PLEASE check out my website:

http://becky.doubleu.googlepages.com/drawingsbybeck.e

-I have the same day job, except promoted to Executive Administrative Assistant.  $ helps us build our lives and prepare us to move.
-Move where?  Goal 2009 move to Oregon.
-Yes, kids are in our future, but not until after Oregon and they'll be born Oregonians.
-Still have the pet family: Boxer Mayo, three cats/bros: Simon, Tyler, and Charlie.
-Still in love with my best friend and HUSBAND Dan.

Don't forget to check out my drawings!  Many more projects in the works.
For example: Publishing company in England is including 3 of my daily drawings in their art book, due out March 2008.  Details to follow!

Later all, Becky

Dan got promoted, big time! It's our big break! AND, I'll find out this week if I'm going perm at Le Grande French COMPany (not its real name), plus a doubling of my own salary. I'm talking benefits, 401K. We'll be able to afford to comfortably paint and draw in our free time, have shows on the weekends. We would NOT use increase of pay to simply have a more lavish lifestyle. LAST YEAR 2005 was hard to just feed ourselves and pay rent.

2005
Becky Jobs: 4, 1 permanent for first half of year.
Dan Jobs: 3, 2 permanent.
Living Situation: (1) First floor apt of Dan's Dad's house in WC, PA.
(2) Top floor of Dan's mom's house in PB, PA.

2006
Becky Job: 1, temp-to-hire, Le Grande French COMPany.
Dan Job: 1, promotion, Le Grande French COMPany.
Living Situation: May 2006: 2-bedroom apartment, all new furniture. (Half "new to us", and half brand-new. Couches we're sitting on now at my parents' house they're giving us. Built-in recliners.) All the furniture we had from college (orange-flowered couch, Salvation Army tables) we got rid of before moving to his mom's house. These tough times have a bright future.

A FRESH START. We could afford now to move earlier, but Dan wants to finish up the last of his debt from college and we need some time to pick out a new mattress and some other furniture. A NEW MATTRESS! No more nun bed! And my hope chest and dresser and other furniture my parents have held on to for me.

Dan and I are buying each other Asian-inspired dishes for our birthdays. I want to get the new iMac, to replace the orange one I have, but I think I'll have to wait on that. We have our HONEYMOON to save up for. This summer I'll be stress-free to plan our wedding. Jamaica! And Jasmane (sp?) designer dress! (Not pricey. Just elegant.)

Movie is almost finished and then we'll go to town. I told my parents, as a joke, that we'll gladly take their new plasma tv, too. (They laughed.) Man, they're nice! And surround sound. But that much money could buy a shit load of art supplies... Or a trip to Europe.

√All posts after this post have been made "friends only". So, if you'd like to be my lj friend, leave a comment and have a lovely day. :D

I went to Barnes & Noble, got a few books and wandered around, and CVS Pharmacy for a cheap notebook and a good ink-flowing pen. (My hand has been cramping quicker. It's not good for my career.) I'll tell you one book I got. "The Living Faith Bible". I already know how it ends. Well, the ending is sort of fague if you know what I mean. ;D (Revelations) I bought two other books, but I don't want anyone to spoil the endings for me. In middle school, this one kid would never fail to tell me the endings to any books I had with me at school. They were mostly those "Goosebumps" and other young adult books. But man he pissed me off. :D I got him back once and felt really bad about it. I think he liked me and went about a strange way in showing it. I guess I didn't have any pigtails to pull. I don't know what I'll do for the rest of the day. I don't hold to whatever I predict anyway. Hope you all are enjoying your weekend! :D Ohhhh, wait, and when entering CVS I noticed an advertisement on its front door of Nicoderm gum and patches being sold behind its counter. One day, one day. Some are able to quit cold turkey, but my turkey is still too fresh. (ssssooo, lame.) :X
"It's a wonderful day in the neighborhood."
I watched the beginning of "Mr. Rodger's Neighborhood" yesterday as he was putting on his socks and shoes. He was going to take us viewers to see how things are woven (as in a scarf or blanket), but I think I already saw it when I was younger.
"Ohhhh, won't you beeee my neighbor?"

Ah, Dan called earlier while my phone was off to see if I wanted to hang out with him today. [snap fingers] Shoot. I called and left a message on his answering machine. He's really nice. Graduated two years ago from same school and we know some of the same people. I'm going to open my windows in my back room and paint (oil paint--fumes--bad--oh well) and have a movie on. Oh, and I was going to call Matthew and tell him I'll probably go to church tomorrow. (bumbumBUM) I haven't been in a year. Might as well go and see the old crew. And listen to the sermon and wonder if it's still the corporate religion I remember it being. (I have faith. I just have issues with churches right now.)

Last night was fun. I met some new people. Scott came by with a friend of his he met from work. (Name: Brendan.) I was so shocked to learn Brendan was only 19. He's really nice and I don't really care how old people are as long as they're nice and fun. We were going to go play some pool, but we stopped off at Scott's friend Dan's place and didn't leave there the rest of the night. I think we were in a mood to just chill out anyway. And plus the place we would've played pool at, we would've gotten shot. Believe me. So every now and then one of the guys would say that if we went he'd be the one to protect us all... But we drank and stuff and it was more relaxing and better atmosphere for us to get to know one another. We played four-player "Smash Brothers" on the Nintendo Cube. I love that game, but they all killed me pretty quickly. They were hard core because Dan and Brendan were trying to see who was "the ultimate". :D We also watched these hilarious cartoons (not for kids) and then a Japanese ninja movie. I felt really comfortable. Besides Erin, Natalie, and Dionn and Kara, it's fun to hang out with guys. (A reminder. Growing up I had mostly guy friends and my brothers and first two years of college were mostly guys. They just dropped out. Bastards;) Dan gave me his number because he lives just a few blocks away. I think that made Scott a little mad. Scott is great but I don't know if our personality types really go together to make a relationship. He's a great friend. He just gets annoyed if he doesn't get his way, and that's hard for me to deal with. I don't know. I'm not making too much sense. Maybe I'm too picky, but I want to just be able to have guy friends and leave it at that right now. I think it's because I sort of like this other guy who I want to get to know better. Back to the Scott thing because I've been editting this post--I think whatever is good for the group at the time (if it's for a short hanging out time), is best. It's hard to please just one individual when there are a lot of people at the time to consider. (In reference to how he is sometimes which isn't apparant in anything I've said in this post.)

No chewing me out for being an evil woman, please. I'm just starting to be open to being with a guy again after two years, and I don't want to get into something as bad as I was in before. And I don't lead guys on. I'm not one of those types of girls. My best interest is both myself and the other person. I don't glorify myself in if a lot of guys like me or not. That's what a bitch is, and we don't like them do we? No, no, no. So, have a merry day.
